White Horse Stables Horse Rescue

White Horse Stables is the equine charity and rescue unit joined with Ellenwhorne, and is where all the profits from EEC get channeled into. Registered in 1995, WHS is a sanctuary for abuse or abandoned equines, and offers training and care, with the ultimate goal of re-homing and giving the horses a better life. You can read through the official WHS website here.

The horses and ponies rescued by WHS are often looking to be adopted, sponsored, or re-homed, and WHS itself is always looking for volunteers to help with the rescues' care.

Dotty enjoying herself in the field
Case Study: The Somerset Six

At the end of July '14, WHS took in six young, wild ponies from a large rescue mission in Somerset hosted by Hope Rescue. On arrival, the ponies had never been handled, and were basically herded of the lorry onto the yard. Now, a few months down the line, all six are happy to wear head collars and be led about by themselves, they can be caught and brought in from the fields easily, and they are just a lot more confident around people. With careful treatment and feeding, they have all blossomed into stunning young horses with bundles of potential.

Dorothy, or Dotty, had to be seperated from the others, as she had an abscess on one hoof that needed daily treatment. She was moved onto the main yard and given all the TLC necessary to heal up her abscess. Because of her constant handling, she has come on a lot more than the others, and had made strong, new friendships with some of our other horses, as well as her main handler, Nicky. Dotty is now completely healed and enjoys playing with her new friends.

You can find update posts about the 'Somerset Six' here. Taking on these ponies as residents of WHS was a massive undertaking, both financially, and time-wise. If you can, you can help by donating to the charity, or volunteering some time to help look after these ponies and give them some TLC!

Bobbie having a stroll
Case Study: Bobbie

Bobbie is one of the prettiest horses on the yard, but he came to us from some quite tragic circumstances.

Before arriving at WHS, he was 'backed' in a cruel way, being ran into a bog and then, once exhausted, he was saddled and bridled. Bobbie suffered from this difficult start and can, for obvious reasons, be slightly nervous around people. Despite this, once mounted, he makes a lovely riding pony.

With the correct, experienced rider, he would be a wonderful addition to any stable, and can even be considered for re-homing to the right person.
